Hi. I’m Allan Metcalfe, owner of Metcalfe Drilling. I have 28 years experience in the drilling industry. I do the drilling myself with the assistance of my experienced second driller. We are able to offer a wide variety of drilling methods. From my early years in the industry I have undertaken a mixture of quarry development and site investigation drilling work across Britain. In more recent years I have done a mix of percussion and rotary type drilling for water wells as well as water and gas monitoring wells around landfill sites. I have also drilled gas extraction wells for the extraction of methane by drilling through landfill which was very popular in the 1990’s. I then moved onto dewatering 450mm diameter shallow wells to deeper 60 metre x 200mm diameter cable percussion. From 2004 to 2006 I did dedicated ground investigation on the railways for WA Development’s (now Stobbart Rail) – installation of slip indicators, inclinometers, extensometers, SPTS’s, CPT’s and recovery of samples. We used Archway Dart sampling rigs and WA Development’s own in-house built rotary/percussive sampling rigs.

Recently I have been doing a combination of dewatering, geothermal and water wells.

My quarry development customers have been Hanson, Cemex, Lafarge and Tarmac.

Environmental water monitoring wells for Golder Associates and Carters.

Landfill drilling for Hanson, Thos Gravesons , Cumbria County Council, Onex, Cories and various local authorities.

Dewatering wellss — Deep and wide at Stratford Box in London, Belfast Sewers, Victoria Shopping Centre in Belfast, Canary Wharf and Tyne Tunnel. Also Carlisle Pressure Relief Wells for the Environment Agency as a sub-contractor.

Rotary drilling is carried out on either a sub-contract basis or direct to the customer.
